WIDCOMM Bluetooth Connectivity Software Directory Traversal

Kevin Finisterre has reported a vulnerability in WIDCOMM Bluetooth Connectivity Software, which can be exploited by malicious people to bypass certain security restrictions.

The vulnerability is caused due to an input validation error in the handling of file uploads to the "Bluetooth Exchange Folder". This can be exploited to upload files to locations outside the default upload directory via directory traversal attacks through a wireless Bluetooth connection.

The vulnerability has been reported in version 1.4.2 on the BTW platform (using the dongle Ambicom BT2000C-US). Other versions may also be affected.

SOLUTION:
Versions 4.0.1.700 and 3.0.1.905 are reportedly not affected.

Restrict access to the wireless Bluetooth interface.
